100Hz Traditional TVs display visual images at 50Hz frames per second. 100Hz runs at twice that amount by creating an extra unique frame between each of the existing 50 frames. Doubling the frames displayed per second results in a much smoother picture especially when watching fast action movies and sports. 200Hz Quadruple speed frame rate for TV. Three predictive new images are added to the action giving you an astonishing 200 frames per second that results in super sharp images ensuring that you dont miss a single detail of the action taking picture clarity one step further and eliminating judder and blur. 24p A video format that operates at 24 frames per second. Standard TV uses 25 frames per second where as films for the cinema are shot at 24 frames per second. 24p mode allows you to enjoy films at the speed the director intended and not played back faster as would normally occur on a set not equipped with 24p. 3LCD Sophisticated technology that powers projectors using 3 chips delivering vibrant and consistent images. Basically white light is split into three colours, LCD chips create an image from the electrical signal, the 3 colour images are combined using a prism to form an image consisting of millions of colours that pass through a lens and project on to your screen. APPLICAST A system where you can access a large range of internet based applications while watching your TV without the need to turn on your computer by using Widgets that can be operated by your remote control. When a new widget is added or expires the number available in the catalog will increase or decrease. BLUETOOTH A technology that allows any Bluetooth enabled devices to communicate with each other using a radio broadcast communication system without the use of cables providing they are within range of each other. Originally conceived as a wireless alternative to RS232 Bluetooth can connect several devices eliminating synchronization problems. DLNA Digital Living Network Alliance allows your home and mobile entertainment devices and PC to share digital content, such as photos, music and video, with each other via a wired or wireless network, both within and beyond the home giving you the freedom to access, play and share your favourite content regardless of where you are. DLP Digital Light Processsing technology saves you time and money by not requiring filters that need to be cleaned and replaced regularly. DLP projectors have a very high native contrast ratio making projections extremely clear with very dark blacks and very white whites. DLP is used in front projectors and rear projection television. Dolby Digital Dolby digital is the reigning standard for surround sound technology. Basically Dolby Digital is a highly sophisticated audio encoding/decoding technology that can transmit in mono, stereo and up to 5.1 channel sound and has the ability to deliver high quality multi channel audio without any compromise to quality which has made it the audio standard worldwide. DVI Digital Visual Interface. This high-bandwidth connection automatically presents the images at the optimal picture size and resolution. Pixels are transmitted as binary data and each pixel in the outer buffer are read from the source device and assigned brightness individually on the display as apposed to analog where each pixel may be affected by adjacent pixels and by electrical noise. Ethernet Ethernet is intended for building a local area network (LAN) and is a standard communications protocol embedded in software and hardware devices. Ethernet achieves transfer rates of up to 10 MB/s. Ethernet networks can also be wireless by using radio waves for two way communication with a wireless switch or hub. FREESAT Freesat is a free to air digital satellite service providing an alternative to Freeview. A joint venture between BBC and ITV, Freesat channels are available without subscription once you have purchased a receiver. These popular BBC and ITV programs are broadcast in high definition and Freesat have said they expect to add around 30 channels each month. Freeview The Freeview brand name is owned by DTV services that took over digital terrestrial television in 2002. In the UK Freeview is the easiest way to enjoy up to 48 digital channels free of charge, subscription fees and contracts. Freeview channels are received through a Freeview enabled TV or set top box. Full HD 1080p Full HD reproduces the picture in the exact way it was transmitted without having to scale the image to fit a lower resolution TV. The number 1080 refers to the lines of vertical resolution and the letter p stands for progressive scan as apposed to interlace scan that is less smooth and can cause flicker. HDMI High Definition Multimedia Interface. HDMI cables can carry both video and audio signals and will eliminate the need for multiple cables. HDMI interface transfers uncompressed digital video without conversion of digital to analog and back again and eliminates information loss. HDMI enabled systems will automatically configure to display content in the most effective format. INTERNET@TV A television service distributed by the internet that can be streamed or downloaded on to a computer allowing you to choose and view from a library of shows. LCD Liquid Crystal Display is a very popular technology that creates clear, sharp images by using two transparent sheets with a clear crystal liquid in between them to from pixels. Electricity is passed through the screen, determines the colour of the crystals and then brings images to life with strong and vibrant colours and reduced glare. LED A new technology that uses multiple LEDs around the outer edge of the screen as apposed to LCD that uses a simple constant backlight to illuminate images on the screen and can lead to black and grey looking washed out. LEDs can brighten, dim or turn off when required giving blacks a far more authentic look and colours greater subtlety. OLED Organic Light Emitting Diode technology produces amazingly fast response times and colour reproduction. OLED expresses pure colours as the electric current stimulates the relevant pixels. Of the two types of OLEDs, small molecule and polymer, small molecule has a greater lifespan. OLED is organic material in between two conductors that produce electro luminescent light when an electric current is applied. SHORT THROW Projectors with short throw lenses are able to create larger pictures with less distance between the screen and the projector than the normal one foot of screen for every two feet of space. Short Throw lenses create as big a picture as required regardless of space restrictions ideal for small home theater, small classrooms or trade show booths. USB The Universal Serial Bus was designed to allow many peripherals to be connected by using a single standardized interface socket without the need to reboot computers or devices commonly known as hot swapping. USB can also provide power to low consumption devices eliminating the need for an external power supply. WATERPROOF Waterproof camcorders are generally safe to use in up to 1.5 to 2 meters of both salt and fresh water, and quite often shockproof and dustproof as well. Waterproof camcorders are ideal for taking images of tropical fish darting around coral reefs, footage of snow skiing, jet skiing and other outdoor situations where you wouldnt dare take a conventional camera. WIFI Wifi enabled devices such as your PC, Laptop, mobile phone etc can connect to the internet when they are in range of a wireless network without the use of cables. WIFI access points, called hotspots, are either provided free of charge, for example by a hotel or cafe or for home use will require a subscription. |
