TOKYO - Samsung Electronics Co Ltd saw its share in the North American LCD TV market reach 18.3 percent in April-June, widening its lead against rival Sony Corp research firm DisplaySearch said.

Samsung's share in the latest quarter was up from 13.5 percent in the first quarter as the South Korean electronics maker outsold Sony in liquid crystal display TVs with 40-inch displays or larger, DisplaySearch said in a report dated Thursday.

Sony's share slid to 11.7 percent from 13.4 percent, followed by LG Electronics Inc with 7.8 percent, down from 8.1 percent in January-March.

In the plasma TV market, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd maker of Panasonic brand electronics, remained the top supplier with a 31.2 percent share.

But that was down from 35 percent in the previous quarter as Vizio of the United States boosted its share to 25.1 percent from 10.5 percent, and Samsung to 24.2 from 19.8 percent, DisplaySearch said.
