The local Taiwan LCD TV market has remained sluggish in July, despite a series of promotions from channel players, and sales of LCD TVs have not met expectations from vendors, said market sources.
The one bright spot has been Sony, which introduced a series of new products early in July. With the launch of the new products, the company lowered the price of its 40-inch products from NT$74,900 to NT$64,900 and 46-inch products NT$109,000 to NT$84,900, and already shipped 7,000-8,000 units of the new products, according to the market sources.
Industry players indicated that though several industry players have launched cheaper products to compete with Sony, August is still the low season, and industry players estimate shipments will remain slow. However, the Taipei Computer Application Show is expected to generate sales next month.
